Our Delaware Plastic Surgery center offers a variety of facial procedures, including eyelift, facelift, MACS lift (which is similar to the Lifestyle lift), FRAXEL laser treatments, BOTOX, Restylane and Radiesse injectable fillers to give you a more youthful appearance. Many patients are able to achieve excellent results with less surgery by having a less invasive procedure such as a MACS lift along with nonsurgical procedures such as injectables or laser treatments. EYE LIFT Surgical treatment of the face can provide natural, long lasting results that enhance your appearance making you look younger and fresher. Eyelid procedures remove excess skin and fat from the orbital area. Lower lids can sometimes be treated with no external incision. If an incision is needed, it is placed very close to the lower lashes so it generally becomes invisible. An upper lid incision is placed in the upper lid crease. This will also generally heal with no visible scar. These incisions are sutured with very fine stitches that will come out on their own within about a week after surgery. Eyelid procedures can be performed alone or in conjunction with other facial rejuvenation procedures. BROW LIFT If the brow position is low, a brow lift may be recommended. Brow lifts are most often performed using the endoscopic technique. This involves inserting a surgical telescope through very tiny incisions placed in the hairline to lift the eyebrows. In some cases just the lateral brow is lifted, giving a more defined arch to the brow. A brow lift can also treat the vertical lines between the eyebrows, or glabella. The muscles that cause this expression can be weakened or removed. MACS LIFT A MACS lift (Mandibular Anterio Cranial Suspension lift) is a facial rejuvenation procedure, similar to a LifeStyle lift, which is less invasive than a traditional facelift. This procedure improves the lower face and neck by lifting in an upward fashion. This upward lift provides a natural, youthful appearance while eliminating the need for an incision under the chin. It also requires less extensive manipulation of the underlying tissue. An extended MACS lift will also address the midface area. What about the creases from my nose to the corner of my mouth? These creases are called the nasolabial folds. They are improved or eliminated by a facelift. In some cases they may be treated by injecting filler material such as Radiesse or fat into the area. Can I treat my whole face at the same time, or do I need to have each procedure done separately? These procedures can be done simultaneously. Will a facelift help my fine wrinkles? A facelift will not help fine wrinkles, but FRAXEL laser resurfacing can. FRAXEL treatments may be combined with full facelifts to produce outstanding results. Can fat be used to fill in hollows or lines in the face? Long term restoration of fullness in the face and filling of wrinkles and depressions can be achieved by transfer of an individual's own fat by liposuction and reinjection. This procedure is frequently successful but may require more than one procedure to achieve good results. Depending on the extent of the treatment, it may be possible to have fat injection as an outpatient procedure under local anesthesia. What is the recovery time? We recommend that you apply ice (frozen peas work well!) for the first 48 hours after surgery and sleep with your head elevated. Following these instructions will reduce swelling and promote quicker healing. In addition, we provide Arnica and Bromelain, as well as nutritional supplements, to reduce swelling and bruising and promote healing. Most patients can return to work in about 12 days after surgery. If needed, our aesthetician will instruct you in applying special camouflage makeup, which is very effective in concealing bruises. Is this procedure painful? Most patients are surprised at how little discomfort they experience with facial surgery. We provide narcotic pain medication, so if you experience discomfort, we encourage you to take your pain medication. Most patients tell us that Tylenol or Motrin provided adequate pain relief. |
