ClearLift — Laser Skin Resurfacing Without the Downtime

Laser Skin ResurfacingLasers have been used for skin resurfacing for some time. The way they do this is by vaporizing the top layer of the skin to remove damaged skin and the perfections on it.

There was never a question about being able to improve the surface skin. The question was the recovery this method demanded. These types of ablative laser resurfacing procedures require substantial recovery times as the patient’s skin weeps, then crusts over, then scabs, all before forming the new healthy skin to replace the removed surface layer. Ablative resurfacing can also create pigmentation problems and scarring.

But what if we used lasers to rejuvenate the skin surface without harming the epidermis on top? That’s exactly what Dr. Lonergan can do with ClearLift™. ClearLift™ helps improve fine lines, wrinkles, redness, and skin tone, without any downtime.

What is ClearLift™?

ClearLift™ differs dramatically from the ablative and fractional approaches to skin resurfacing. Those methods target the skin’s surface, removing the top layer and creating fractional perforations, respectively. ClearLift™ instead delivers a dermal wound response in the body without harming the overlying epidermis. All of the healing and rebuilding come from beneath, while the surface is undamaged.

How does ClearLift™ work?

Dr. Lonergan uses the ClearLift™ laser to penetrate deeply beneath the surface of the skin (up to 3mmin depth). Here the laser’s light energy converts to heat energy in the dermis layer (the layer below the epidermis). Since heat is not a normal phenomenon beneath the epidermis, the body reacts with a wound response. This response is to rebuild the skin in the wound, and this involves new production of collagen. Collagen is a protein that is the body’s natural skin structural support system. As we age, our body produces less and less collagen, making our skin less taut and firm the older we become. This wound response created by ClearLift™ helps firm back up treatment areas.

ClearLift™ can be used on delicate areas

Other than the lack of recovery time, ClearLift™ has another serious advantage: it is gentle enough to be used on areas that are typically too sensitive to treat with ablative lasers. These areas include the delicate skin around the eyes, neck, mouth, and chest. Dr. Lonergan is able to use different control tips with the ClearLift™ laser; these allow him to specifically designate the depth of the laser penetration appropriate to the treatment area. For instance the skin on the cheek is much thicker than on the chest, so different tips/depths are required.

What’s the recovery like with ClearLift™?

While you would think that this kind of skin improvement would still require some sort of recovery time, this isn’t the case with ClearLift™. Our ClearLift™ patients can return to work the same day as their session. After your session your skin may be slightly pink and warm to the touch for around 30 minutes after your treatment, but that’s the extent of your recovery!

How many treatments are needed?

Dr. Lonergan recommends a series of five treatments spaced out from two to four weeks for optimal results. Then, as the collagen production builds, you will see your results continue to build and your skin to improve.
